The open ended problems are three point problems.  To earn all three points you must:

  1. Answer the question correctly

  2. Show your work

  3. Provide a written justification explaining what you did to arrive at your answer

If you make an arithmetic error that is carried throughout the problem, showing work can often help earn at least partial credit becasue you demonstrated a knowledge of the applicable operations.

The open ended response is best begun with a statement like "This is my answer because..."

Try using a three to five point explanation covering the following areas...

  1. Restate what you knew and used from the problem to develop your answer

  2. State the formula(s) your used and why

  3. Explain any derivations, additional thoughts, or work

  4. Restate your final answer with applicable lables or units

When making tables or graphs, be sure to label them properly.
